Welcome to the John Taylor Teaching School Hub – proudly serving over 270 schools across six local districts in north Warwickshire and east Staffordshire.

Covering the districts of North Warwickshire, East Staffordshire, Cannock, Lichfield, Tamworth and Nuneaton and Bedworth, The John Taylor Teaching School Hub is based at John Taylor High School, an Outstanding comprehensive school near Burton on Trent, and are part of John Taylor MAT.

Professional Development

Through the provision of high-quality services and by forging local partnerships, we have established a strong track record of, and reputation for, providing high-quality professional development and support for teachers and leaders. At the John Taylor Teaching School Hub we look forward to working in partnership with schools to ensure the provision of a high quality ‘golden thread’ of professional development for colleagues at all career stages, working in all phases and types of education, including:

ITE via the John Taylor SCITT Primary and Secondary routes.

Early Career Framework fully funded Full Induction Programme in partnership with the Education Development Trust.

5 Specialist NPQs – NPQLT, NPQLTD, NPQLBC, NPQLL & NPQLPM and 4 Leadership NPQs – NPQEYL, NPQSL, NPQH, NPQSENCO, as well as an Early Head Teacher Coaching offer, in partnership with Ambition Institute and Best Practice Network.

Additional Continued Professional Development (CPD) packages to meet local needs, including an offer from the Staffordshire Research School.

Signposting to other approved CPD providers including Curriculum Hubs, Research Schools, Language Hubs, and others.

To identify and coordinate expertise from across the region, using the best teachers and leaders to provide high quality training and leadership development for staff to support the achievement of excellence in terms of learner outcomes.

To learn from and mobilise expertise across a wide spectrum of subjects, phases, contexts, and types of education.

To deliver a high quality ‘golden thread’ of professional learning entitlements and opportunities to teachers and leaders at all career stages.

To recruit outstanding new entrants to the teaching profession, providing them with the highest quality training and retaining them to meet local recruitment demands.

To support our most talented people to access and secure leadership opportunities which will strengthen schools and create future capacity.

To engage in action research and development that informs and improves pedagogy and professional development across all phases.

Include ‘Train to Teach’ signposting to local providers or DfE materials as an email footnote or signature strip.

Share these myths and misconceptions-busters about teacher training and teaching to inform potential applicants about the profession.

Offer Intensive Training & Practice (ITAP) placements to ITE providers (typically 1-2 days) to allow trainees to observe practices and apply learning.

Offer enhanced placements (1-5 days) as part of an ITE programme, focussing on a phase, type, or specialist area of education (e.g. PRU, Special School, EYFS, Post-16).
